In the summer of 2018, Sonora Slocum served on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music Young Artist Summer Program in Philadelphia, PA. Slocum has given masterclasses and coachings at the NYO2 Carnegie Hall Youth Orchestra, DePaul University, New Jersey City University, East Tennessee State University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Ms. Slocum taught privately as an assistant to New York Philharmonic principal flutist Robert Langevin at the Orford Arts Center. She also served as a private teacher at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM) Summer Camp and was a teaching assistant at the Amateur Chamber Music Festival at MSM.
Ms. Slocum's teaching emphasizes fundamentals, creative problem solving, ergonomically healthy body/instrument alignment, mental focus and a direct positive approach. She has given masterclasses in New York and Milwaukee and has presented interactive educational concerts for K-12 schools and senior centers in the Philadelphia and Milwaukee areas.
